CS2 Trust Factor: How Does Cheating Affect Trust Factor?

We explain how CS2 Trust Factor is calculated based on data, the impact of cheating, the Overwatch process and how to get out of low Trust Factor.

How is Trust Factor Calculated?

Trust Factor is a reputation score that combines a number of signals that are publicly known but not publicly disclosed by Valve. This could include account age, overall Steam profile activity, past VAC and Overwatch bans, reporting frequency, and even behavior in other games in your library. The system tries to match you with players of similar Trust Factor level; So while a low score may not mean an outright ban, it will more often relegate you to the same server as players with toxic or questionable behavior. Newly opened or lightly played accounts often start with a lower Trust Factor due to lack of data.

Does Cheating Reduce Trust Factor?

Cheating alone does not trigger an instant Trust Factor penalty because Valve does not detect and score it in real time; The real impact occurs indirectly through the consequences caused by the use of fraud. Increased reports from rival players, a negative Overwatch review, or being caught in a VAC wave will significantly lower the Trust Factor. Therefore, a cheat used carefully and moderately carries much less risk in terms of Trust Factor than a cheat used with aggressive and glaring settings; What is decisive is not the existence of fraud, but the amount of trace it leaves.

Overwatch and the Role of Report Count

When the "cheating" reports you receive at the end of the match exceed a certain threshold, your account is transferred to Valve's Overwatch system; Here, a jury of experienced players watches your demo recording and makes a decision. Being found guilty in Overwatch not only carries the risk of an immediate ban, but can also leave a permanent mark on your Trust Factor, regardless of the outcome. The number of reports itself is also important: a small number of but consistent reports are taken more seriously by the system than a large number of scattered and inconsistent reports. Therefore, each match played with aggressive settings cumulatively increases the chance of falling into Overwatch.

Getting Out of Low Trust Factor

The most reliable way to recover the Trust Factor is time; Playing with the account for a significant period of time without reporting, just with clean and consistent performance will allow the score to gradually increase. During this period, stopping the use of cheats completely or setting them to inconspicuous settings (for example, radar only) for informational purposes only will speed up the recovery process. Increasing the overall trustworthiness of a Steam account — performing phone verification, keeping the account public, accumulating a clean history in other games — indirectly contributes to the Trust Factor. Although it can sometimes be tempting to open a new account, an account starting from scratch also takes time to establish its own history.

Suggestions to Maintain Trust Factor

The most practical way to keep your Trust Factor high is to use the cheat when you need it, not at the highest settings in every match. Quickly switching between "clean" and "backed" profiles before a match with CSCodep's cloud config system is a more sustainable approach than constantly playing with the same aggressive settings. Additionally, not engaging in unnecessary discussions in the in-match chat is one of the behaviors that trigger rival players to target you and make mass reports. Since it takes time for the Trust Factor to recover once it drops, it is always easier to take precautions than to make up for it later.
