CS2 Unlimited Bullets: How and When Does It Work?
We explain how the unlimited bullets feature technically works in CS2, in which modes it is really effective, and why it does not work in competitive matches.
How Does Unlimited Ammo Technically Work?
Unlimited bullets work by automatically writing back the memory address that holds the number of bullets in the magazine to a fixed value each time it is fired. CSCodep's PX8.2 architecture updates this value on the client side by checking the game's own ammo counter every frame; so instead of 'adding' an extra bullet, it momentarily prevents the meter from depleting. This method does not trigger the reload animation, so you can fire continuously without pressing the reload button. Unless the bullet count is separately verified on the server side, this change only affects your screen and your shooting experience.
In which modes does it work and in which does it not work?
Unlimited ammo, practical with offline bots, works smoothly in environments with weak client-side authentication such as community deathmatch servers and local servers (listen servers). On Valve's official Competitive and Premier matchmaking servers, the number of rounds is also tracked on the server side; Since the change on the client side does not match the actual number on the server, it is either rejected or logged as a discrepancy. That's why the feature can only be safely used in practical and trial scenarios, it does not provide a reliable advantage in the official competitive environment.
Why is it preferred in Deathmatch and Aim Maps?
For those who train aim, constantly reloading interrupts the flow and interrupts the practice of locking on the target. Unlimited bullets allow you to make consecutive attempts without waiting for reload, especially in spray control and tracking training with rapid-fire rifles (AK-47, M4). In aim maps, you can move directly to the next target instead of reloading between waves of bots. This significantly increases the number of actual shots per hour of training and accelerates the development of muscle memory.
Server Side Risks and VAC Relationship
The fact that unlimited ammo does not work on official servers also makes it low risk from a VAC perspective; Because it does not pass server verification anyway, it does not create a meaningful behavioral change in official matches. However, even when using the feature on community servers, keeping CSCodep's HWID Spoofer active will ensure that you are not affected by a server ban by a possible third-party anti-cheat (non-VAC). The feature is off by default and is recommended to be enabled only in a practice mode-specific profile.
Combining Settings with Other Practice Modules
Unlimited grenade is not used alone, but is often used in conjunction with other practice-oriented modules such as no-recoil and infinite grenade. The cloud config system saves this combination as 'Practice Profile' and allows you to return to the normal profile with a single click before a competitive match. This distinction is a simple but effective layer of security that prevents you from accidentally entering an official match with its practical settings. Both 40-day and 400-day licenses can access this profile switching feature in the same way.
